Jay Thompson

Manager / Funeral Director

Bro. Jay Thompson, originally from Tupelo, MS, is a proud United States Air Force veteran. He worked for many years with the United States Postal Service, where he was entrusted with the position of Postmaster from 2012 to 2022.

He and his family moved to Monticello in 2010 when he was elected pastor of New Life Church, where he and his wife still faithfully serve. In 1992, he married the love of his life, Suzanne Browder, and together they have three children and three grandchildren. Anyone who knows him would say that he truly cares about people and does everything within his power to help and encourage others during difficult times. Jay became the manager of Wilson Funeral Home in 2024.

Bren Smith

Funeral Director

Bren is a lifelong resident of Jayess, and a sixth-generation Lawrence Countian. He attended Topeka-Tilton, and graduated from Lawrence County High School. He is a 2010 graduate of Mississippi College. Before working full-time as a funeral director, Bren served as the pastor’s assistant at Powells Grove Pentecostal Church and taught in the Lawrence County School District. Today, he and his wife, Cassie, continue to live in Jayess with their son Everette. He counts it a distinct privilege to have been able to serve his own family, friends, and neighbors with care and compassion in a time of need, recognizing that your trust in us at the most difficult of times is a sacred honor.
