Viola E. Gamble Smith, 93, of Morton, MS, passed from this life on February 19, 2015, at Bedford Care Center in Newton, MS. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 21, 2015, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, MS. Burial will follow in Prentiss Cemetery. Rev. Milton Koon will officiate the services. Wilson Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Smith was born on May 9, 1921, in Silver Creek, MS to Cleve and Luna Daughdrill Daughdrill. After marring Earnest, she raised her family in Prentiss, MS, where she was active with her family at Prentiss Baptist Church. After Earnest passed, she married a former classmate George and lived in Sontag with George for 24 years. While living in Sontag, she was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. After George's passing, she moved to Morton, MS, and attended High Hill Baptist Church near Raleigh, MS. She was a homemaker. She loved to cook and had plenty of food prepared on any given day. She was passionate for gospel music. She was a very caring and loving person that loved to read and study her bible. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She collected and raised daylily's and shared them with her friends. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She worried about her children and grandchildren, and prayed for them daily. She will be missed and loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Luna Daughdrill Daughdrill; husbands, Earnest Gamble and George L. Smith; sons, Nolan Ray Gamble and Cecil Gamble; and brother, Everett Daughdrill.
She is survived by her son, Earnest Ray "Jack" Gamble, Jr. of Philadelphia, MS; daughter, Catherine Gamble Tadlock and husband Waldo of Morton, MS; sister, Brenda Daughdrill; brothers, Cleve Daughdrill and Robert Daughdrill; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 9 great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
