OBITUARY

Sherry Ann Maxie, 70 of Ruth, MS passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025 at her residence in Ruth, MS. She was born Thursday, November 4, 1954 in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church located at 4150 Providence Road, Jayess, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM with a visit time at Noon at Providence Baptist Church in Jayess, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Jayess, MS. Bro. Jeff Davis will officiate. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-587-2573

Our momma never had an easy life. She worked hard from the time she was a little girl until the day she couldn't make herself go anymore. From milking cows and hauling hay to cooking and cleaning, she always had a job to do while living at home. After high school, she went to Co-Lin to become a nurse, and spent the majority of her life seeing to the needs of others, even after her retirement from nursing as she cared for her mother. She worked at Lawrence County Nursing Center for almost forty years, and if you ask her patients' family members, they will tell you just how wonderful she was at her job. However, her most important job was being a wife to Pete and a mother to her four babies. She did all that she could with all that she had, and we are who we are today because of all the sacrifices she made to be sure we had a good life. She took care of her family, which included everyone on our block of Mallalieu Dr. SE, along with so many others. Her heart of serving others will live on in our hearts. Thank you, momma, for everything. We love you so much and will miss you until the Lord calls us home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Maxie; father, Jerry Earl Rutland; mother, Ramona Townsend Rutland.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Shannon Maxie (Dehna) of Bogue Chitto, MS; daughters, Jenny Gomez (Tony) of Ruth, MS, Charra Coleman (Brad) of Ruth, MS and Mona Usher (Mike) of Fredericksburg, TX; grandchildren, Rena Gomez, Brooke Cothern (Nick), Kinley Coleman, Devan Kent (Brandon), Lauren Coghlan, Steven Maxie, George Maxie, Brynn Hazelett, Christine Freitag (Aimee) and Ryan Usher; 6 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Claude "Tinker" Cate.

Pallbearers will be Terrell Rutland, Wayne Rutland, Jeff Rutland, Taylor Rutland, Brad Coleman, and Shannon Maxie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Claude "Tinker" Cate, Brent Rutland, Wayne Thompson, Jason Ard, and Mike Usher.

Special music will be performed by Maurice Rutland.
