Mr. Samuel "Sam" Banister, 77, of Jayess, MS passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2020 at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Sam was born May 16, 1943, in Myrtle, Mississippi, to Jimmy and Dessie Lee Stacks Banister.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Monticello Pentecostal Cemetery in Monticello, MS. Bro. Glynn Hilton will officiate the services with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sam retired from the United States Army after 22 ½ years of service. During his tenure he drove for 2 United States Presidents, Five Star Generals and above. He also served as an auxiliary deputy with the Lawrence County Sheriff Department. He was a member of the Monticello Pentecostal Church.
Sam is survived by his wife, Patsy Banister of Jayess, MS; sons, Sam Banister Jr. of South Carolina and Christopher Banister of Jayess, MS; 1 adopted son Kevin Banister of Alabama; 1 daughter, Bridgett Banister Holet of Alabama; 4 step children he felt like his own Curtis E. Lambert (Melissa), Veronica R. Delancey, Dustie M. Lambert and Patrick Lambert (Becky); multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister Virginia Melton of Mountain View AR.
Those preceding him in death were his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
