Ruby Mae Brister Dalton, 86, of Monticello, died on February 15, 2014. A celebration of her
life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 18 at Providence Baptist Church in Jayess with
interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ronnie Burch of Trinity Baptist Church in
Vicksburg will officiate the service. Family and friends may visit with the immediate family at
the church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Mrs. Dalton was born in 1927 in Lincoln County, MS to Robert Milton Brister and Carrie
Amanda Boyd Brister. She graduated from Ruth High School. She was married in 1947 to
Marcus M. Dalton.
A life-long resident of Lincoln and Lawrence counties, she was actively involved in development
of the family cattle farm with her husband and in the rearing and education of her beloved
children. An avid gardener, cook, seamstress and homemaker, she also enjoyed Gospel music,
assembling jigsaw puzzles and fishing. Her family was the joy of her life. She was a member of
Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include her six children: Wyman Dalton of Kokomo, MS, Brenna Smith of
Brookhaven, MS, Janie DiVentura (Brian) of Jensen Beach, FL, Danita Dalton of Brandon, MS,
Jan Jenkins of Fair Hope, AL and Vonda McCullar of Southaven, MS. She is also survived by
and was extremely proud of her many grandchildren: Shannon Dalton (Marinda), Keri Dalton
Armstrong (Devon), Lance Falvey, Michelle Falvey Trigg (Richard), Gabrielle Falvey Blair,
Jimmie Jenkins, Shelley Jenkins, Roxanne Sanders, and Benjamin Sanders as well as greatgrandchildren
Jarrett Todd, Nicholas Hawker, Kaelyn Trigg, Riley Falvey, Duncan Falvey,
Ellison Falvey, Tristen Dalton, McKinsey Dalton, Ethan Armstrong and Ainsley Armstrong.
She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Ideva Alexander (James) of Ruth, MS, a sister-in-law, Mrs.
Johnnie Brister of Ruth, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband; seven sisters, Della Beard of Jayess, MS,
Annie Lee of Tylertown, MS, Dorothy Calmes of Baton Rouge, LA, Genevieve Dalton, Melba
Alexander, Laurie Brister of Monticello, MS and Daphne Sumrall of Foxworth; five brothers,
Donnie Brister of Baton Rouge, LA, Emil Brister and Brenell Brister of Ruth, MS, Edrodean
(Edo) Brister of Themopolis, WY and James Brister of Slidell, LA. She was also predeceased by
two infant grandchildren, Marcus Dewitt Falvey and Sally Amanda Jenkins.

Caregivers and to the extraordinary staffs of Baptist Medical Center in Jackson and Hospice
Ministries of Brookhaven.
