Robert Joe Herring, 72, of Monticello, MS, passed from this life on July 15, 2014, at his residence in Monticello, MS. Visitation will be on Friday, July 18, 2014, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Carmel Baptist Church and continue on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Carmel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Phil Hemby and Bro. Robert Dunn will officiate the services. Wilson Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Herring was born on February 14, 1942, in Columbia, MS to Robert S. and Dorothy Wilson Herring. He was a member of Carmel Baptist Church. He served in the US Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He was a retired master diesel mechanic. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. and Dorothy Wilson Herring; brother, Kenneth Herring; and sons, Michael Hill and Gerald Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gloria Simon Herring; sons, Robert S Herring and wife Laurie of Baker, LA, James Kenneth Herring and wife Desire of Baton Rouge, LA, and William Ray Herring of Winchester, VA; daughters, Maureen Hill Israel and husband Danny of Paragould, AK, Cheryl Hill Buchanan and husband David of Pride, LA, and Jeanne Chantell Herring Whitaker and husband Jason of Woodville, MS; sister, Sandra Langston, Robin Shoemaker and Michelle Montague; 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
