August 5, 1927 – February 10, 2021
Mr. Paul Rayford Thames passed from this life on February 10, 2021 at the age of 93. What a reunion in heaven with his Lord and with many of his loved ones who were already there. He was born August 5, 1927 to Recie and Ida Thames.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 12 PM until service time at 2 PM at New Hope Baptist Church in Monticello, with graveside services following in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. David Williams and Bro. Kevin Crozier will officiate the services with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a World War II Veteran-who served his country in the United States Coast Guard- Merchant Marine Division. He was a retired dairy and beef farmer. He was a faithful member, deacon, and friend, at New Hope Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was a Sunday school teacher beginning at the age of 16.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Vonece Thames; son, Joel Thames; sister, Ruth Nelson; brothers, Jere Thames and Ford Thames.
He is survived by his wife Lena Mae Thames; daughter, Paula Smith(Danny); daughter in law, Tammy Thames; granddaughters, Leigh Davis(Daniel) and Lauren Smith; grandsons, Landon Thames, Lane Smith(Samantha) and Logan Thames(Kelsa); also survived by daughter, Louise Cliburn(Roger), son Wilton Townsend(Linda); granddaughters, Stephanie Townsend, Erica Whitaker(Jimmy), Melissa Lanius(Perry), Kim Hutchins(Roger); grandson, Brian Townsend(Whitney); eight great-granddaughters and four great grand-sons. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members will cherish the memories made.
He enjoyed hunting, eating, fellowship with family and friends, country music. Watching his children and friends sing and play music was his delight. He loved his family, his church, and his Lord.
He will be missed-but we will still have those precious memories.
