Obituary

Mrs. Opal Oliver, 89, of Monticello, Mississippi, entered into her eternal rest on Friday, May 22, 2026, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, surrounded by family. Opal was born on March 18, 1937, in Oakvale, Mississippi, to Kenneth and Myrtis Lowery Smith Parkman.

A time of visitation will be held at New Life Church located at 1095 FE Sellers Hwy in Monticello, Mississippi on Sunday, May 24, 2026, starting at 1:30 PM.

Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM. A private Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Ministers are Bro. Jay Thompson and Bro. Matt Robinson. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Opal enjoyed cooking and traveling, but above all, she loved her family deeply. She was known for her wonderful cooking—no one could fry chicken, make biscuits, or prepare dumplings quite like she could.

One of her greatest accomplishments in life was being a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She leaves behind cherished memories of family gatherings, trips together, and especially traveling to the Great Smoky Mountains. Among those who had a meaningful impact on her life was her dear best friend, Tommie June Davis.

Mrs. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Myrtis Parkman; her stepfather, Everett Smith, her husband, Kenneth Oliver; her son, Darrell Oliver, brothers, James Parkman, Lowery Parkman, and Billy Joe Parkman.

Mrs. Opal is survived by her son, David Oliver (Lisa); her daughter, Debbie Daughdrill (Roger); her grandchildren, Alison Price, Dusty Letchworth, Elizabeth Hall, and Caitlin McCall; her great-grandchildren, Carson McCall, Addison McCall, Ethan Hall, Joanna Price, Lydia Letchworth, and Carolina Letchworth; her brothers, Tony Smith, Tom Smith, Terrell Smith, Jack Smith, and John E. Parkman.
