Obituary

Newton August Pertuit went home to be with his "Merciful Lord Jesus" on June 20, 2024.  He was born on August 6, 1945 in New Orleans, LA to Edward and Wendy M. Pertuit.  He loved his country and proudly served for a time in the Army National Guard.  He married his childhood sweetheart on February 12, 1966 and moved her to the "country," in MS, in 1977.  His favorite place to be was on his land working on projects, in the woods, and tending to the many animals over the years.  He retired from BellSouth in 2006 and had many phone company stories to tell anyone who would listen.

He was ordained into the ministry of the Methodist Protestant faith on June 21, 1985, and all who heard his sermons knew to "put your toes under the pew if you don't want them stepped on."  He actively spread the Good News of a great God until his death and was currently filling the pulpit at Hickory Grove M.P. Church in Sumrall, MS.

He was the ultimate family man, but he truly shined in his role as Grandpa and has had a standing tradition for over 35 years of taking the grand and great grandchildren for weekly visits to Plunkett's Farm Supply for treats.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane Pertuit, his daughter Raquel Davis and son-in-law, Tommy Davis, his daughter, Robin Pertuit, his granddaughter, Brittany Powell and grandson-in-law, Cole Powell, granddaughter Georgi Davis, 4 great grandchildren, Presley, Isley, Grae, and Autry Powell, brother, Dwight Pertuit, sisters Noreen LeBoeuf and Nelva Abshire, special nephew, Glen McBride, a host of nieces and nephews, a host of M.P. ministers and members, and all the special youth from various churches that he so loved.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff of St. Dominic's Hospital for giving such special care in his final days, especially the nurse who prayed him straight into the arms of Jesus.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to The Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital or St. Jude Organization.

The family will accept visitors on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Forest Grove Methodist Protestant Church in Jayess, Mississippi. Then they will again be available for visitors on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 9:00 am until the time of the service at Divide Methodist Protestant Church in Monticello, Mississippi. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, officiated by Bro. Bobby Dawson and Bro. Billy Frazure, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

And now, well done thou good and faithful servant; enter ye into the joy of the Lord.
