Madra Nevon Holmes Rushing, born January 6, 1932 to Fred and Ethel Patterson Holmes in Tylertown, MS.
She grew up in the New Zion community where she attended school. Later in life, after she had raised her three sons, she went back to school to get her nursing degree from Copiah Lincoln Community College. After receiving her nursing certificate, she went to work at Lawrence County Nursing Home and the Lawrence County Hospital, where she worked till she was severely injured in a car accident that forced her retirement.
She was a member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church for 63 years. One of the joys of her life was the time she spent at Lake Mary in Wilkinson, where she loved to catch catfish in her own boat, and entertain family and friends at her camp house. Playing dominoes and cards and cooking good ole southern food.
But her greatest joy was her family. She was married to Rufus Rushing on September 3, 1948 and they were married for 58 years. She was from a large family with 13 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her three sons, Dennis (Melissa), Keith (Eva), and Terry (Melissa, 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great- grandchildren.
Nevon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rufus, grandson, Eric Scott Rushing, and granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Rushing.
