Mattie Jewell Ward Pevey Nelson, 100, passed away August 1, 2024, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was born May 19, 1924, to John App and Vina Geneva Dixon Ward in Jefferson Davis County, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church in 618 Carmel New Hope Road, Monticello, MS. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 04, 2024, at 3:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church in Monticello, MS. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello, MS. Bro. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmont Pevey and William J. Nelson; daughter-in-law, Sharon Thames Pevey; and grandson, Matthew S. Pevey.

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie E. Pevey (Linda) and Gary W. Nelson (Ann); grandchildren, Dana Pevey White (Chad), Jason E. Pevey (Casey), and Jacob A. Nelson (Laura); great grandchildren, Brentley White (Victoria), Chandler White (Tiffany), Reagan White, Sydney Pevey, Abbey Pevey, and Foster Nelson; great, great grandchildren, Aidan White, Isabella White, Natalia White, and Mason White.

Burial was in New Hope Baptist Church cemetery, Lawrence County, Mississippi.
