Margaret B. Stokes
Funeral services were held at 2 PM, Friday, January 10, 2025 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, for Margaret Beeson Stokes, 89, of Monticello, who died Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Lawrence County Hospital surrounded by family and the wonderful hospital staff.
Burial will follow in Monticello City Cemetery.
Visitation was at Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 11:30 till the 2:00 service time.
The daughter of T. C. and Amanda Lou Beeson, Mrs. Stokes lived in South Louisiana all her married life with her husband, Charles C. Stokes, Sr., who died in 1974 and their 3 children. She moved back home to Monticello and worked as Deputy Circuit Clerk for 7½ years before being elected as Lawrence County Circuit Clerk. Retiring after 4 terms in office, Margaret enjoyed life to the fullest. She traveled abroad to 12 foreign countries and extensively throughout the USA. She enjoyed music and was an avid and very competitive game player. She was a member of Monticello Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Chuck Stokes, Jr of Sontag; one daughter, Margaret Amanda Stokes Allen and husband, Gary of Monticello; two sisters, Diann Berry of New Hebron, and Delma Wallace of Monticello. Nine grandchildren: Chuck III, Caleb, Christina, Charlie, Tessa, Joey, Matt, Erika, and Lauren. Nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, T. C. & Amanda Lou Beeson; husband, Charles C. Stokes, Sr., one son, Alton Matthew Stokes, and one brother, Burnell Beeson; one sister, Genola Barlow; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Tyler Brister and Isaac Matthew Pradillo.
