Laverne Niehaus, 86 of Sontag, MS passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Daughters Residence in Monticello, Mississippi. She was born Tuesday, April 12, 1938 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 3:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church in Sontag, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Sontag, MS. Bro. Jimmy Smith will officiate. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-587-2573

Laverne loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed being outside and enjoying nature. She loved family cookouts. Laverne was a union worker for 16 years and enjoyed traveling to the different places in her work. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and loved being with her church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman John Niehaus;  father, Clarence Brown;  mother, Carrie Wallace Brown;  brothers, Clennon Brown, Clayton Brown and CA "Bear" Brown;  sisters, Pauline Brown Smith, Sara Irene Brown Smith, Causlee Brown Johnson and Rhody Brown Reeves; grandchildren: "Little" Richard Stewart, Jr.  and Chase Channell.

Survivors include her sons: Richard Stewart of Foxworth, MS., Tommy Channell (Sherry) of Wesson, MS., Tony Channell (Robin) of Sontag, MS., and Thad Channell of Sontag, MS.;  daughters: Ann McGraw of Monticello, MS and Sandra Prevost (Ryan) Loranger, LA. She has 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Johnson, Gregory Brock, Hambone Reynolds, Dean Campbell, Hank Channell, and Ryan Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Channell, Ruston Prevost, Ethan Johnson, Keri Channell, and Christian Channell.
