Mrs. Johnnie Faye Brister, 84, formerly of Ruth, Mississippi passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Riggs Manor in Raymond, Mississippi. Johnnie was born on February 4, 1940 in Clarks, Louisiana to George Lacy and Mildred Elizabeth Cotton Whittington.
Funeral services will be held at Powells Grove Pentecostal Church in Jayess, Mississippi on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 12 o'clock noon; the family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 AM until time of the service. Graveside services will follow in Providence Cemetery (Jayess). Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Johnnie is survived by her children, Regina Roden(Dave) of Byram, Mississippi, Rachel Long (Russell) of Alexandria Louisiana, Joe Brister (Lori) of Alexandria, Louisiana, Becky Firster (Baron) of Forsyth, Georgia, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and sisters Judy Fitzgerald and Reba Thomas (Danny), both of Clarks, Louisiana, and a host of extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mildred and Lacy Whittington, her husband Brenell Brister, her brothers Wayne and Gerald Whittington, her sister Karen Whittington, and her grandson, Trey Thames.
Johnnie graduated from Grayson High School and attended Business College in Monroe, Louisiana. She then moved to Jayess, Mississippi to live with her cousin and a best friend and took a job at a textile factory. Not long after, she met Brenell at BallardsChapel (now Calvary United Pentecostal Church) and they were married October 23, 1964. She became a homemaker and mother to Regina, Rachel, Joey and Becky. Together, they lived and traveled throughout much of the Mountain Western states. They retired near Brenell's home place in Ruth and were faithful members of Powells Grove Pentecostal Church.
