Jo Ann P Harvey, 98 of Silver Creek, MS passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS. She was born Monday, January 11, 1926 in Hebron, Mississippi.

JoAnn's family lost their farm during the depression, so she grew up very poor. She has always been a worker, ambitious to excel. The youngest daughter, JoAnn was the glue that kept the Pickering family going. She would coordinate family events, lending a hand to whoever needed her. Nephew John says JoAnn helped raise and guide him.

After college, JoAnn worked her way up through Woodall Industries, later Masonite Corporation, from the secretarial pool on up to a lead sales person. She persevered in a man's world, and, as a pioneer in sales, she crisscrossed the southeast US, achieving top awards.

In the late 70's, she ran into an old acquaintance from the business world, and a romance bloomed. In September 1979 she married the love of her life, Dorman Harvey. Together, they travelled extensively, hosted community & family gatherings, and were active in Monticello Baptist Church. They were together until separated by his death in 1994.

Jo immersed herself in community and church work, serving in many capacities with local clubs and organizations. She served for over 25 years on the Lawrence County Civic Center Steering Committee as their treasurer.

A favorite aunt, Jo doted on her sister's children and grandchildren. When she and Dorman married, she gained two sons. JoAnn reveled in her grandsons and her great grandchildren, particularly her great grandson, Andrew Dorman Harvey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman B. Harvey; father, James W. Pickering; mother, Viola Virginia Mapp Pickering; sisters, Jewell P. Williams, Rema Jean Pickering Graham, Janell Pickering, and niece, Denice Graham Chancellor.
