Jean
Mcelroy
January 18, 1934 – August 6, 2020
Jean S. McElroy
Born Sallie Eugenia Story January 18, 1934 in Tuskegee, AL, most folks around Monticello knew her simply as Jean. She married Harold McElroy in March of 1954 and they were inseparable for 64 years. They did everything together. Mom had battled dementia for nearly ten years. She fought the good fight but on August 6, 2020 the Lord called her home. Mom had a servant heart, just like her mother before her. She taught us the importance taking a meal to someone who had been sick or in the hospital. Mom loved spending time with friends and family. She had a welcoming smile, a contagious laugh and never met a stranger.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff at Lawrence County Nursing Center for their care of Mom over these past two years. We would also like to thank the emergency room staff and Dr. Patrick Wood and the COVID unit staff at Lawrence County Hospital for their care during Mom's last days.
Mom is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law: Wayne (Debbie) McElroy of Zachary, LA, Brian McElroy of Monticello, MS, and Gay McElroy of Monticello, MS. Grandchildren: Douglas (Jennifer) McElroy of Zachary, LA, Randy (Ellen) McElroy of Houston, TX, Patrick McElroy of Pensacola, FL, Morgan McElroy of Monticello, MS, and Patricia McElroy of Pensacola, FL. Great-grandchildren: Megan Hart, Jordan Westbrook, and Jackson McElroy of Zachary, LA, Sawyer and Sadie McElroy of Houston, TX, Siblings: Dr. Bob Story of Tuskegee, AL and Annie Lee Cole of Tuskegee, AL.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband Harold McElroy, her son Wade McElroy, great-grandson Elijah McElroy, parents Chester and Belle Story, siblings Everett Story, Frances Woodall, Wiley Story, Betty McClendon, Helen Story, Laura Myers, and Tommy Story.
A private family graveside service was held.
