Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. James T. Todd will be on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello, MS at 11:00 AM. Wilson Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017, 5:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Monticello Baptist Church and also Friday December 15, 2017 9:00 AM until service time.
James Travis Todd was born August 18, 1931 to Travis and Verta Todd of Jones County, Mississippi. Affectionately known as JT, he grew up with two loving sisters, Rachel and Clarese, and brothers, Byron and Orville. Jim graduated Soso High School and attended Jones Jr. College when he was activated to serve in Korea for a year and a half. Upton return, he fell in love with Shirley Ann Pitts and she became his bride. They were married for 65 years. Jim attended Jones Jr. College one more year and continued to Baptist Hospital where he earned a degree in Medical Technology. Jim also attended the University of Southern Mississippi.
Together, Jim and Shirley had 4 children; Jim, Donny, Rhonda, and Tommy. Jim's career included Pearl River County Hospital and Covington County Hospital where he served as administrator. Eventually, they moved to Monticello where Jim was Administrator of the Lawrence County Nursing Center. Jim was named to the Board of Governors from the National Nursing Home Association. Monticello is wher Jim and Shirley made their forever home and became members of Monticello Baptist Church where Jim was active until his illness in 2016. He loved music and the choir and always took an active part in programs and musicals. Jim's MBC membership encompassed 46 years.
Jim loved being active and over the years enjoyed various memberships and leadership roles in various organizations. In Collins, he was active in Rotary Club. As a Lion in Monticello, he also served as past president and enjoyed "Pancake Day" and his monthly dinner meetings. The Lion's Club awarded him the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services. In his later years, he enjoyed golfing daily and especially the weekend scrambles with his gang at Swan Lake. Jim's Jones county roots came to life even more as he enjoyed his tractor and gardening during retirement.

Most of all, Jim loved the Lord and it was evident to his family every day. He loved family and bab ies and was always available for his family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved attending grandchildren's ball games, school, and church programs and was dearly loved by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Todd of Monticello, MS; daughter, Rhonda Todd Hayes and husband Michael of Madison, MS; sons, Donny Todd of Silver Creek, MS, Jim Todd and wife Loraine of Lafayette, LA, and Tommy Todd and wife Dyan of Monticello, MS; grandchildren, 10; great grandchildren, 12; sisters, Rachel Guthrie of Athens, GA, Clarese Smith of Huntsville, AL; brother, Orville B. Todd of Soso, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Byron Todd.
