Mr. James Leon "Toby" Johnson, 82, of Monticello, MS passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at his residence in Monticello, Mississippi. Toby was born July 31, 1938, in Batesville, Mississippi to James Leon II and Hattie Davis Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 10:00 AM until service time at 12:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church in Monticello, Mississippi with graveside services following in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Michael Smith, Bro. Archie Herrin and Bro. Philip Alford will officiate the services with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Toby retired as a senior tool pusher in the oil field industry. He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for 6 years as a cook. He was an avid fisherman and former member of the Brookhaven Bass Club. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Monticello where he served as a deacon. Toby enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Toby will be missed by everyone.
Toby is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Johnson of Monticello, MS; son, Tim Johnson of Monticello, MS; daughter, Janan Johnson Malone of Brookhaven, MS; brothers, Paul Johnson (Debra) of Silver Creek, MS and Douglas Johnson (Charlotte) of Monticello, MS; sister, Martha Lou Ballard of Monticello, MS; grandchildren, Jessica Channell, Ford Johnson of Monticello, MS and Matthew Malone of Brookhaven, MS; great grandchildren, Fisher Channell and Asher Channell.
Those preceding him in death were his parents, daughter, Darlene Johnson, step-father, Dewitt Evans, sister, Omelia Tyson, and daughter-in-law Melissa Johnson.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
