Hedgepeth
October 21, 1932 – April 15, 2025
James Pinkney Hedgepeth passed from this life on April 15, 2025 at Lawrence
County Nursing Center. He was born to Toxie Hall Hedgepeth and Zelma Dunn Hedgepeth on October 21, 1932. His childhood was spent in the Carmel community of Lawrence County, but work took him to Indianapolis, Indiana where he lived 40 + years. He retired from Lucent Technologies and A -1 Awards. In 1998, James began a new life with his bride, Lillie, who had been his brother's widow. Never having children of his own, his move back home to Mississippi instantly rewarded him with three nieces turned daughters, numerous other nieces, nephews, and step- grandchildren who affectionately called him "Uncle Pops." He loved working in the yard and took great pride in keeping it tidy. James was a Veteran and member of Carmel Baptist Church in Monticello.
James was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary, and siblings- Jerrell Hedgepeth, Donnie Hedgepeth, Carl Hedgepeth, Dorothy Boyd, Nellie Turner and Ruth Nations.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Daughdrill, sister Geneva Nations, step-daughters Nalina McGuffin (Daryl), Angela Beasley (Troy), and Mary Bullock (Roger), numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends, Steve and Nora Capper.
Funeral arrangements are through Wilson Funeral Home of Monticello, MS. Visitation is at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be in the funeral home chapel, and will start at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Burial will follow at Carmel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family extends deep gratitude to the staff of Lawrence County Nursing Center and Arden Hospice for their loving care in his final days. God's blessings to you always.
We take great joy in knowing that Uncle Pops is greeting his loved ones in Heaven with "a kiss and a peck, and a hug around the neck".
