Irene Franklin Smith, 87 was called home from this life on Friday, July 22, 2016, at Lawrence County Nursing Center in Monticello, MS. Irene was born May 17, 1929 in Brookhaven, MS to Ben and Estell Barr Franklin.
There will be a time of visitation from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 23, 2016, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Service Saturday July 23, at 2:00 PM. The graveside service will be held in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Doctor Joey Faulk will officiate the services.
Mrs. Smith established the Ferguson Federal Credit Union many years ago, she started the Credit Union in a small room at the St. Regis Mill and later the Credit Union building was opened on N.A. Sandifer Hwy, which she retired from as manager.
Surviving Irene are her sons Len Ray Smith and wife Margaret of Monticello and Tommy Smith and wife Mary; a sister Kathy Lawrence. Grandchildren Laurie Smith Young and husband Kent, Karen Smith Collins and husband Brent; Tammy Smith Prince and husband Matt and Christopher Smith. Great Grandchildren Ethan and Marley Young, Mattie and Luke Prince, Katherine Collins and Kylie and Kassi Smith.
Proceeding her in death is parents Ben and Estell Barr Franklin husband Clarence Smith Jr. and brother Paul Franklin.
