Henry O. Whitaker, 76, was called home from this life on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Mr. Whitaker was born July 4, 1938 in Lawrence County, MS, to Henry P. and Jessielee Blackwell Whitaker.
Visitation will be at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, MS on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 10:00 AM at Wilson Funeral Home. The graveside service will follow in Bethsham Cemetery in Monticello, MS. Reverend Doctor H J Hutchins will officiate the services. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He served in the US Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a retired maintenance worker from Jackson Industrial Uniform Services in Jackson, MS. He loved to fish, to work with wood, to garden and to ride his lawnmower. He was a loving husband, father, uncle and friend to all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry P. and Jessielee Blackwell Whitaker; son, Harold Whitaker; sister, Nancy Whitaker Lambert; and great-nephew, Jeremy S. Clark.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Betty Bates Whitaker; daughter, Tanya Whitaker Martin and husband Charles of Crystal Springs, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers are Chris Oliver, Patrick Clark, Keith Calhoun, Triston Shivers, John Mike Nations, and Mike Catt. Honorary pallbearer is Johnny Catt.
