Donald Thomas Reid of Monticello, MS passed from this life on January 24, 2024.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Monticello Methodist Protestant Church in Monticello, MS. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Monticello Methodist Protestant Church in Monticello, MS. Burial will follow in Bethshan Cemetery in Monticello, MS. Bro. Marc Williams and Bro. Matt Lambert will officiate. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald was born April 20, 1948, to Josie (Miller) and Joseph Clifford "J.C." Reid of the Robinwood community in Lawrence County. To family and friends, Donald was known as "Duck," the nickname given to him at a young age by his father. He played football for the Red Devils and graduated from Monticello High School in 1966. After attending Southwest Mississippi Junior College, he served a 6-year term in the National Guard. Donald retired from Georgia Pacific after working 42 years, first on the paper machine, and then in maintenance.

Donald married his beloved wife, Dianne Garrett Reid, on June 20, 1970. They spent the next 53 years together at their home in Robinwood, on the banks of the Pearl River. Donald loved his two "gals" Rachel and Christa, his family, and his home place.

He began hunting the river swampland and fishing in the river as boy. He was an excellent wing shooter and a legendary white perch fisherman. As a licensed commercial fisherman, Donald ran trotlines and hoop nets in the river for several decades.

When quail were abundant in south Mississippi, Donald and his champion dogs Lou, Mack, and Ace were often afield. Donald enjoyed dove hunting with family and friends and rabbit hunting with his brother Jerry and the Southwest crew. He also loved to squirrel hunt and duck hunt. He was most passionate about turkey hunting, and displayed his trophy beards in his den. Donald provided wild game and catfish for many extended family get-togethers with the Reids, Garretts, and Powells. His favorite meal was Dianne's fried Pearl River catfish and homemade cathead biscuits with Blackburn syrup.

Donald enjoyed vacationing in Fall Creek Falls, TN, when his gals were little, and later in Gulf Shores, AL, spending time with his grandchildren. He looked forward to frequent trips to Berry's for the fried oysters and to Rayner's for the catfish and coleslaw. He was an avid reader of sporting magazines and he was a fan of outdoor humor writer Patrick McManus. He enjoyed bowling, growing tomatoes, and watching the Ole Miss Rebels play football. Donald was a spell-binding story teller, with family and friends often requesting of him to tell old familiar tales again and again. One of his favorite pastimes was playing Shanghai rummy with his family, and he won more than he lost.

Donald will be greatly missed by his family, friends from the paper mill, card playing buddies, and friends that spent time with him hunting and fishing. Donald had a very special relationship with his brothers-in law Richie Powell, Richard Garrett, and David Garrett. We know they are all having a grand reunion with Raymond Price and John S. Thornhill and many other loved ones.

Donald was a member of the Monticello Methodist Protestant Church.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry C. Reid; sister Patty Reid Caranna; brothers-in-law John Caranna, Richie Powell, Richard Garrett, and David Garrett; nephew, Kevin Reid; great-niece Kaitlyn Tullis; and special friend and hunting buddy Robby Sauls.

Donald is survived by his wife Dianne Garrett Reid; daughters Rachel (Marty) Bost of Oxford, MS, and Christa (David) Neal of Monticello, MS; grandchildren Taylor Bost and Cody Bost; brother Miller (Dorothy) Reid of Brandon, MS; sisters-in-law Eleanor Reid of Tilton, MS, Diana Garrett of Monticello, MS, Vicky Garrett of Jayess, MS, and Mary Ruth Powell of Jayess, MS; many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; and life-long friend Carroll Case.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Everett, Al Felder, Reid Graves, Alden Powell, Tate Powell, Preston Sauls, Chuck Wilson, and Justin Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Bailey, Carroll Case, Brian Joe King, Scotty McCloud, Wesley McCoskey, Donnie Mullins, Don Palmer, Charlie Powell, Wayne Powell, Roger Price, John Ratcliff, Cliff Reid, Miller David Reid, Luke Watts, Glen Weeks, and Jeff Thames.

Special music will be performed by Kyle Graves, Cole Powell, and Brittany Powell.  Pianist will be Jan Russell.
