Dennis “Mike” Smith, age 72, of Monticello, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2026, at his home.

Mike was born December 8th, 1953, in Monticello, Mississippi, to his parents, Vernon “Pete” Smith and Johnnie Evelyn Evans.

Mike was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved his community and attended New Zion Baptist Church. Mike enjoyed life and many hobbies that kept him outdoors and loving nature. Racing cars, riding Harleys, riding Fair River, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his dog Ruby (Weezy).

Mike worked hard and shared many lasting friendships with co-workers. He was a member of Sons of the Confederacy, Mississippi Gray’s SCV Camp 2354 and served as Past Master in Masonic Lodge 610.

Many will remember him from laughter and his stories. Mike enjoyed living life and many hobbies, but his most loved time was shared with his family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon “Pete” Smith, Johnnie Evelyn Evans; stepfather Hugh Vernon Strong; brothers Dale Smith and Bobby Smith; nephew Jason Strong.

He is survived by his wife Kerri; daughter Linzi Blacklidge (Greg); grandson Mason Cosper; sister Kathy Culpepper (Shelton); stepbrother Terry Hugh Strong (Kay).

Visitation will be held Friday July 10th, at New Zion Baptist Church in Monticello, Mississippi, from 5-9pm. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 11th, 2026, at New Zion Baptist Church, in Monticello, Mississippi, at 11am, with an Interment to follow at New Zion Baptist Church cemetery.
