Mr. William David Garrett, Jr. passed away on January 19, 2024 at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Sunday 1/21/2024 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Wilson Funeral Home and continuing Monday 1/22/2024 from 11 AM until funeral services at 12 PM at Monticello Methodist Protestant Church in Monticello, MS with burial in Bethshan Cemetery. Bro. Drake Nelson will officiate the services with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

He was born on February 13, 1947 to the late William David Garrett, Sr. and Donzie Thornhill Garrett Williamson.

David lived most of his life in Monticello, MS.  He moved during his childhood to various places, such as, Miami, Florida, Corpus Christi, Texas, and New York City, New York, where he worked with his mother to help provide for the family.  However, Monticello is the place he always came back to and is where he raised his family.

David graduated from Monticello High School in 1965 and then attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. In March of 1967 he met his wife of 55 years, Diana Smith Garrett while teaching her guitar lessons.  They married on June 8, 1968 and made their home in Monticello.

David worked at St. Regis and Georgia-Pacific for many years where he was a journeyman electrician.  He represented the Union for both companies.

David volunteered countless hours coaching youth  baseball and girls' softball youth and tournament play.  He also coached girls' softball for several years at Brookhaven Academy.

David enjoyed collecting, reading, and teaching and talking to people about different things.  He was an avid golfer and poker player.   He had many memories of going on vacations, fishing, and hunting with family and friends. He was also a member of the Lawrence County Historical Society and the Monticello Methodist Protestant Church.

Above all of these things, he loved his Lord, his family, his friends, and his dogs.

David is preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Barbara Murray and Raymond Smith, his brother, Richard Garrett, his brother-in-law, Richie Powell, and his great-niece, Kaitlyn Tullis.

David is survived by his wife, Diana Garrett, his daughter, Paige, his son-in-law, Chuck, and his granddaughter, Bentley Wilson.  He is also survived by his sisters, Dianne Reid and Mary Ruth Powell, his brother-in-laws, Donald Reid, Rusty Smith, and Mark Greaves, his sisters-in-laws, Vicky Garrett, Patti Smith, Marilyn Greaves, and Debbie Hinkley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
