Obituary

Charles E. Bufkin, 83 was called home from this life on December 17, 2016, at Veterans Hospital in Jackson, MS. Charles was born February 24, 1933 in Bassfield, MS to W.A. and Etta Lee Little Bufkin.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Monticello United Methodist Church in Monticello and continuing Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 9 AM until service time at 11 AM with graveside services following in Monticello Masonic Cemetery. Reverend Mike Evans and Brother Dave Nichols will officiate the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charles graduated from Monticello High School, Hinds Junior College and attended Southern and Brookhaven College, Dallas, TX. During his working days he worked for American Cyanamid a diversified chemical company out of Wayne, N.J. for 34 years. He was a faithful member of Monticello United Methodist Church severing in many levels of the church. He served his country with pride and honor during the Korean War and graduated from military leadership school head of his class and reached the rank of sergeant first class. He was a member of Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Service Club, Crime stoppers, and Civic Center Board of Directors, curator/director of the Lawrence County Military Museum, Regional Mississippi Housing Authority Board of Directors, and Georgia Pacific Community Development Association. Along with his wife and Martha Watts he established and maintained Cooper's Ferry Park since 1993, administrates the Good Samaritan fund, Habitat for Humanity and organized "Meals on Wheels" for Lawrence County.
Surviving Mr. Bufkin is his wife Merle Bufkin of Monticello, MS; Children Debra Ann Smith of Little Elm, TX, Ramona Kay Ferguson of Eagle Lake, TX, Charles E. Bufkin II of Dallas, TX and William Albert Bufkin of Reno, NV and one sister Sarah Kay Bufkin Wilson. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
Preceding him in death were parents W.A. and Etta Lee Little Bufkin one brother Bill Bufkin and one sister Ann Seibold.
