Obituary

Carolyn Carney, 85, passed away Thursday, July 9, at Lawrence County Nursing Home in Monticello. Carolyn was born on June 29,1935, to Preston and Bertie Catt. She was married to Willie Carney for over 40 years and they were the parents of two children, Sharon and Mickey.

Carolyn worked at Kellwood Manufacturing for many years until she and her brother opened the Quick Serve, which to many young folks who worked there or were frequent customers, was fondly referred to as the ICEE store. After closing the Quick Serve, Carolyn worked for the Mississippi Department of Human Services until her retirement in 2014.

Known for her ready smile and laughter, Carolyn loved life, her church, and her family, especially her granddaughter, great-granddaughter, and grand dogs, all of whom dearly returned that love and will miss her greatly.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; daughter, Sharon Ross; great-grandson, Ty Miller; and brothers, Charles and Stanley Catt. She is survived by her son, Mickey (Debbie) Carney, of Monticello; granddaughter, Shelley Rutland of Meridian; and great-granddaughter, Melissa Miller of Wichita, Kansas.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, at New Hope Baptist Church in Monticello with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
