Funeral services for Billy Joe Boutwell, 83 of Monticello, Mississippi will be on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello, MS at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in the Monticello Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello, MS. Bro. Sam Taylor and Bro. Dale Authement will be officiating the services with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Monticello Baptist Church on Monday, July 20, 2020, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Cole Authement, David Lightsey, Ryan Authement, Mondo Buffington, Collin Lightsey, AJ Raiford, Caleb Authement, Billy Glenn Edwards and Mike Edwards; Honorary Pallbearers are Sammy Henry's Sunday School Class and the Lawrence County District II Road Crew.
Mr. Billy Joe, passed from this life on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at The Aspen Living Center of Brookhaven. He was born on February 22, 1937 in Brookhaven, MS, to Fleet Smith Boutwell and Bertha Smith Boutwell.
Billy Joe Boutwell and Shelby Jean Williamson finished High School at Monticello High School in May 1955. September 2, 1955 he and Shelby Jean married. He was soon hired by United States Coast and Geodetic Survey. Billy Joe and Shelby Jean moved to Michigan and for the next 3 years they were sent from state to state, sometimes for 3 weeks and sometimes 6 months. Susan was born in August of 1958 in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. In 1962 the couple returned to live in Wanilla, Mississippi where they have lived for 58 years. Billy Joe had his trucking business for 30 years and retired. He was elected Supervisor of Lawrence County District II and remained in the office for 27 and ½ years. He retired March 4, 2019 for health reason.
Preceding him were his parents; and brother, Paul Fremont Boutwell (Barbara).
Survivors are his wife Shelby Boutwell of 64 years; daughter, Susan Lightsey (David); grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Authement (Ryan), Julie Susanne Buffington (Mondo), Collin David Lightsey; great grandchildren, Caleb Michael Authement, Colton Ryan Authement, AJ Raiford, Jilian Keene Raiford, Jasper James Raiford and Addison Grace Buffington; one sister Rena Faye Boutwell Edwards (Cletus); nieces, Paula Jane Wilson (Ronnie), Janice Nelson Henry, Belinda Stokes (Bill); nephews, Michael Cletus Edwards ( Karen), Billy Glenn Edwards (Kim), and a host of family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. James Stephens and the wonderful people at the Aspen of Brookhaven. Thank you, Monticello Baptist Church, for your prayer, calls and kindness. To Ken Hedgepeth, Bro. Richard Green and Sammie Henry and his Sunday School Class and thanks to all of you all over the county for every kind word and deed.
