Douglas proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Following his service, he went on to build a long and dedicated career, retiring after 25 years as a skilled boilermaker welder and later working 16 years with Georgia-Pacific before enjoying a well-earned retirement. Known for his strong work ethic and kindness, he took great pride in his craft and the friendships he built along the way.

In his retirement, Douglas found joy in the outdoors—he loved fishing, hunting, and tending to his garden. A devoted husband, he cherished time spent with his wife and family. He was also a talented craftsman who enjoyed fly tying and making knives, hobbies that reflected both his patience and creativity.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Leon Johnson; mother, Hattie Davis Evans; stepfather, Dewitt Evans; brothers, Toby Johnson and Paul B. Johnson; and sister, Omelia Tyson.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Charlotte Johnson of Monticello; sister, Martha Lou Ballard; and sister-in-law, Ann Johnson.

Douglas will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
